 OADBY OWLS HISTORY

Founded in 1968 by some enthusiastic Sheffield Wednesday supporters, hence the name, the Oadby Owls Football Club has grown to become one of the largest and most successful clubs in Leicestershire today.

We have a debt of gratitude to the many volunteers over the intervening years but perhaps none more so than our late President John Monks who ensured the survival of the club with injections of his own cash during the difficult times of the 1980's.  Thanks to this kind of dedicationanf that of amny others we now field 23 teams from all ages, run a thriving soccer school and organize one of the best tournaments in the County.

Welcome to our club

Oadby Owls

Oadby Owls run a Saturday morning  Academy for younger children which is second to none and currently has some 26 teams currently playing in the various youth Leagues of Leicestershire. The clubs home ground is at Coombe Park, Coombe Rise, Oadby with the 'John Monks Pavilion' being situated on site

Oadby Owls, which is a Charter Standard Football Club, are hugely appreciative of the financial support provided by the Football Foundation and the Oadby & Wigston Council in the building of the ‘John Monks Pavilion’ which was officially declared open at a ceremony on 9th June 2007.

Since the Grand Opening of the clubhouse the membership of Oadby Owls has significantly increased. The club has become a magnet for children’s football. The high standards expected and delivered by the club, combined with the fantastic new facilities, has met accord with many a parent and child.

As a club we have made significant investment in our equipment and our volunteers. All our coaches are qualified to Level 1 or 2 standard and we ensure every volunteer is CRB approved.

We operate a club shop which sells good quality Oadby Owls merchandise. A small amount of profit is made on each item which is invested back into the club. The club advertises its range of merchandise through a unique brochure and items can be purchased via the club shop at the Academy or via email with myself.

We aim to ensure that each of our teams has the all kit and equipment it needs for training and matches. The club has made significant recent investment in mini soccer goals and warm winter substitute jackets. Our volunteers are all provided with Oadby Owls branded clothing.

On behalf of the Club and its members I would like to thank the many sponsors of Oadby Owls and its teams, all of whom are named in this handbook. Without their continued support at this grassroots level we would not be able to operate at the level we do.

The Oadby Owls Academy is undoubtedly the clubs flagship. It operates throughout the season and is an attraction to boys and girls of all abilities whether they be Oadby Owls team players or someone who just wants to come along to enjoy football for a couple of hours on a Saturday morning.

The club continues to host a number of prestigious events. The Fun Day back in May saw over 200 Oadby Owls children from the Academy participate in a ‘World Cup’ style tournament. Everybody received a trophy to mark their achievement on what was a very hot day. The club also staged its annual mini soccer tournament for under 7’s, 8’s and 9’s at the Leicester University Sports Ground. Only the adverse weather conditions put a slight dampener on the day, which was hailed as yet another success.

The club is also hosting an 11 a-side tournament for August which at the time of going to print is still being planned. We have reached capacity for the event with some 72 teams from all over the country attending this inaugural two day tournament at the Judgemeadow Football Development Centre.

At the heart of the club are its many volunteers, now in excess of 100. As the club develops and evolves we need new volunteers. There are numerous roles within the club that need the support of parents. Not all are time consuming. A couple of hours helping out in the kitchen or help with setting up and putting away the goals on a Saturday or Sunday morning is very much appreciated. There is a place in the club for you if you wish to help out. It can be very rewarding.

Our aims are simple. As a club we strive to be the best junior football club in Leicestershire. We want to be associated to everything that is good with children’s football and above all we want our children and young members to enjoy themselves in a friendly and safe environment.

Have a great season with Oadby Owls!
